The Woodside Experience is Presbyterian SeniorCare's professional and experienced approach to providing revolutionary care and design for adults with Alzheimer's disease (AD)and other related disorders. It is based on the care, environment and programming of Woodside Place, Presbyterian SeniorCare's award-winning, internationally-recognized specialty personal care residence for persons with AD.
Woodside Place, one of the very first of its type in the nation, was built in 1991 as an innovative alternative to traditional nursing care. It provides a secure but flexible care program and living environment for persons with Alzheimer's.
Woodside Place has been featured for its innovative care in New Yorker magazine and the Associated Press, and reports on National Public Radio, NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, and ABC World News Tonight.
Utilizing the lessons learned from the Woodside Place experience, special care units and services have been developed within nursing facilities and personal care homes across the Presbyterian SeniorCare network. These special care settings offer a quality of life for persons with dementia not possible within a traditional care setting.
The Woodside Experience is an innovative philosophy of care that blends 24-hour programming with unique design features to give residents maximum freedom, independence and choice. The staff is trained in this philosophy of care and demonstrates an attitude of compassion, flexibility and ability to adapt to and respect each resident's lifestyle. Residents are treated as individuals. They may decide, to the maximum degree possible, when to rise, dine, bathe and participate in planned activities, and can move about freely in a safe environment.
The Woodside Experience provides "quality of the moment," emphasizing high touch as well as high tech. The caring staff works as a team with the residents, their families and friends. This teamwork creates a unified approach to care and provide physical and emotional support for all involved.
The Woodside Experience, with its resident-centered care, is available in Presbyterian SeniorCare's assisted living residences, nursing facilities, supportive housing, and adult day services.
Adult day services are helpful to families of persons with AD because participants remain at home longer. A person in the early stages of AD can spend several hours, an entire day or even weekend and evening hours in an adult day center. This enables the caregiver to work outside the home and/or take a break from caregiving. It also provides participants with supervision, socialization, meals, structured activities and assistance with personal or healthcare needs, if desired.
