THANKS TO SENIORCARE DONORS

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the thousands of SeniorCare residents, families, friends, volunteers, staff, corporations, churches, foundations and others who have generously supported our work over the years in service to the regional elderly. Charitable gifts have been extremely important in the life of Presbyterian SeniorCare--from its humble beginnings to its most current developments. Presbyterian SeniorCare's initial, 8-bed residence in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, was actually donated to us by a generous benefactor in the late 1920s. By 1940, growing regional demand for services warranted the development of a 100-bed personal care home in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, where PSC is now headquartered. This too was funded with gifts throughout western Pennsylvania.

More recently, contributions have helped build Woodside Place in 1991--an award-winning, internationally-recognized model of residential Alzheimer's care; renovate Westminster Place of Oakmont in 1994; construct the Hillsview Chapel at our Washington, PA, campus in 1995; develop specialty rental housing for persons with Alzheimer's disease at PlumWood in 1997; construct the New Southminster Place in Washington, PA in 2001; and implement a major culture change at our Oakmont nursing facility in 2002.

These are only a few of the capital projects that have been supported with charitable gifts. Other important aspects of PSC's mission, like Benevolent Care, which provides for the continuing care of our residents who can no longer afford to pay, are supported through the charitable giving of persons just like yourself. We are so grateful that our contributors continue to make possible for the senior adults of today and tomorrow.

Estate and Planned Gifts:
Gift Planning assists individuals in designing important, deferred gifts that provide income and estate tax benefits to the donor. In many cases, planned gifts also produce additional income to the donor or his or her family. We would be pleased to speak with you personally to help structure a plan that will satisfy your charitable intent while meeting your personal needs for income or tax savings.

Gifts by Will
An estate gift through one's will is the simplest and most direct method of making an estate gift. Any one may make a gift by will with either a specific sum or a percent or fraction of one's estate. A gift by will is 100% deductible from estate taxes. A "For Your Attorney" sheet is available on request with the necessary wording to make a bequest to Presbyterian SeniorCare.

Charitable Gift Annuities - "The Gift That Gives Back"
A charitable gift annuity is a contract between a donor and a charity through which the charity agrees to pay a fixed sum of money for one or two lifetimes based on the age(s) of the donor(s). This gift provides an income tax deduction for a portion of the gift, avoids capital gain tax at the time of funding, and produces partially tax free payments. A personalized illustration is available upon request.

Charitable Remainder Trust
A Charitable Remainder Trust is not a contract with a charity but a separately managed charitable trust. Through the trust, beneficiaries receive a variable life-time income providing a hedge against inflation. The trust provides an income tax deduction for a portion of the gift, and avoids capital gain tax at the time of funding. A Charitable Remainder Trust may also be used to reduce estate taxes and provide income to heirs. A personalized illustration is available upon request.

Gifts of Life Insurance
A gift by life insurance may be made by making the charity the beneficiary or partial beneficiary of an existing policy, donating the policy during one's lifetime, or by purchasing a new policy. There are various income tax deductions depending on the type of policy and how the gift is made. A personalized illustration is available upon request.

Charitable Lead Trust
An estate gift planning tool, the charitable lead trust provides an estate-tax-free inheritance to beneficiaries, after producing an income to a charity for a number of years. A personalized illustration is available upon request.

OUR ONGOING WORK

Benevolent Care
As a Christ-centered, mission-driven and pacesetting provider of care and services to the region's elderly, it is incumbent upon Presbyterian SeniorCare to serve the needs of all older adults, regardless of faith, creed, race or heritage, and to make as generous provision as possible to those in financial need by encouraging charitable gifts for this purpose and through the wise stewardship of its resources. SeniorCare has always assumed responsibility for caring for its residents, even after they deplete their funds and are no longer able to pay for their care.

Presbyterian SeniorCare provides annually nearly $2 million in charitable assistance to about 40% of its personal care residents at Westminster Place of Oakmont, Southminster Place of Washington, Woodside Place and Anderson Manor. Some come to PSC in a state of financial need; and others deplete their funds while in our care. Regardless of their situation, these residents pay a small portion of the cost of their care, often aided only by a modest Supplemental Security Income allowance. Presbyterian SeniorCare accepts this amount in lieu of full payment, and subsidizes the balance of their care costs.

In addition, Presbyterian SeniorCare accommodates low-income Medical Assistance (Medicaid) recipients in its two nursing care facilities, who comprise approximately 50% of SeniorCare's total nursing home population. By contract with Medicaid, we accept reduced payments for these persons, which fall short of the actual cost of their care.

Since it was chartered in 1928, PSC has provided Benevolent Care to its financially needy residents. Benevolent Care continues to be a priority need for the organization.
