Distinguished Service Awards Given to Jim Pieffer and Mosaic Apartments

PRESBYTERIAN SENIORCARE NETWORK RECOGNIZED TWICE AT STATE LEVEL

Distinguished Service Awards Given to Jim Pieffer and Mosaic Apartments

A longtime Presbyterian SeniorCare Network leader and a new affordable senior housing community have both received state-level recognition from LeadingAge PA.

This month, Presbyterian SeniorCare Network received two honors:

Paul P. Haas Lifetime Achievement Award: The Paul P. Haas Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual member who demonstrates excellence in leadership, playing a pivotal role in the overall operations leading to organizational success. This award went to Jim Pieffer, President and CEO of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network, who has served seniors for 40+ years. Jim began working at Presbyterian SeniorCare Network in 1985. Under his leadership, the Network has grown to cover a broader service area in western PA through new affiliations, collaborations, senior housing developments, and programs. Presbyterian SeniorCare Network is recognized as a leader and innovator in the field of aging services because of Jim’s guidance, foresight, and dedication. He holds a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Jim has served on several national and state committees on affordable housing and assisted living. He has overseen the development and renovation of more than 40 communities serving seniors and persons with disabilities.

Innovation of the Year: The Innovation of the Year Award recognizes an individual or program that contributes significantly to the quality of life for older adults. This award recognized Mosaic Apartments. Mosaic Apartments is the first LGBTQ+ friendly low-income senior housing community in Western Pennsylvania and only the second in the state. Groundbreaking for Mosaic Apartments was held in May 2024, and the community was officially opened in November 2025. It was fully leased by December 2025, only one month after opening, and maintains a waiting list of over 160 people. The $28.5 million development was made possible through strong public and private collaboration. Located along Forbes Avenue, the vibrant five-story building offers 48 one- and two-bedroom apartments, community gathering spaces, and amenities such as a pet spa, covered parking, and easy access to public transit. The building’s name, Mosaic, was chosen through a community contest that drew nearly 140 suggestions from members of the LGBTQ+ community. Mosaic Apartments represents Presbyterian SeniorCare Network’s 33rd supportive and affordable housing community in western PA.

“Each year, LeadingAge PA is proud to present Distinguished Service Awards to the best of aging services — those individuals and organizations that go above and beyond in pursuit of their missions to serve older adults with compassion and innovation,” said LeadingAge PA President and CEO Garry Pezzano. “Presbyterian SeniorCare Network is ahead of the curve in innovation and service to marginalized communities under the exceptional leadership of Jim Pieffer, who has dedicated his career to making Pennsylvania a better place to grow old, and couldn’t be more deserving of our highest recognition, the 2026 Paul P. Haas Lifetime Achievement Award.”

The LeadingAge PA Distinguished Service Awards were given at a statewide annual conference in May. Only eight awards were given across Pennsylvania this year. Established in 1973, the Distinguished Service Awards recognize people within LeadingAge PA’s member communities who exhibit exceptional dedication, compassion, and leadership in serving seniors.
