Dementia Care
Making life easier for people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia in western Pennsylvania area.
Specialized dementia care helps make aging easier® for people living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Our proven track record and ongoing pursuit of innovative dementia care approaches supports why Presbyterian SeniorCare Network is known today as a Dementia Care Center of Excellence.
Presbyterian SeniorCare Network set the standard for dementia care when we opened the first Woodside Place on the Oakmont campus in 1991. Woodside Place of Oakmont was the first care community of its kind to specialize in meeting the physical, mental and social needs of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. In sharp contrast to the institutional settings of the day, the design heralded an intimate household model that was based upon the merits of residential vs. institutional environments. The design also incorporated visual cues that encourage mobility and comfort within a secure atmosphere. Today, the Woodside model is evident across our Network and this philosophy has spread and been embraced by senior living communities nationally and internationally.
Every team member in our organization—from nursing and therapy to housekeeping and maintenance—receives dementia-specific training and is certified through CARES®. Woodside team members receive even more hours of specialized training. We utilize evidence-based practices, participate in relevant dementia care research, and share our knowledge and expertise with the community-at-large through educational forums and workshops.
As your loved one’s needs change, our expert team integrates the necessary physical, social and psychological services through our personal care, nursing care, and supportive housing communities, along with caregiver-focused offerings such as respite care and family support groups. In addition to full-time residential living, we offer an Adult Day program. Learn more about Adult Day Services at our Oakmont and Washington campuses.
