Southmont Team Member Receives State Award for Caregivers

PRESBYTERIAN SENIORCARE NETWORK TEAM MEMBER RECEIVES STATE AWARD FOR CAREGIVERS

Brad Davis at Southmont Skilled Nursing Community in Washington PA Honored

Brad Davis, a longtime Certified Nursing Aide at Presbyterian SeniorCare Network’s Washington Campus, received the Direct Caregiver of the Year award as part of the LeadingAge PA’s 2025 Distinguished Service Awards.

This award recognizes Brad’s exceptional contributions, leadership, and commitment to serving the needs of older adults. Only nine Distinguished Service Awards were given across Pennsylvania this year.

Brad serves as a CNA Team Lead and Mentor at Southmont, the 147-bed skilled nursing community on Presbyterian SeniorCare Network’s Washington Campus. He has served as a CNA for 28 years at Southmont with increasing levels of responsibility.

He received the LeadingAge PA Direct Caregiver of the Year Award at a statewide annual conference earlier this month. The LeadingAge PA Distinguished Service awards, established in 1973, recognize people within LeadingAge PA’s member communities who exhibit exceptional dedication, compassion, and leadership in serving seniors.

Brad’s first major influence to enter the field of caregiving came through his grandmother, who lived with dementia. He became her caregiver and attended vocational school. “I obtained my CNA and had plans to become a registered nurse, but at one point, I sought the Lord’s opinion on things and came away with a clear answer that I was right where I was supposed to be,” Brad said.

Brad enjoys that he can learn something new every day as a CNA. “If a person is willing to do it, there’s something new every day, especially in the dementia care setting. I love being able to put my personal touch on care delivery as well,” Brad said.

“I can’t think of a more deserving caregiver than Brad Davis,” said Derek Culbertson, senior director for Presbyterian SeniorCare Network’s Washington Campus. “He models our person-centered culture so well, demonstrating his underlying integrity, strong work ethic, and incredible compassion that drive him to serve others no matter who presents in need.”

Derek added that Brad is both a caregiver and an educator, leading by example through safety standards, mentoring new team members, and providing teaching sessions for his fellow team members.

Brad primarily serves as a CNA to Southmont residents who are living with dementia. Brad is well known for his ability to connect with residents on a personal level to provide both physical care and emotional support, according to Max Bondi, Executive Director of Southmont.

“We congratulate Brad for receiving the Direct Caregiver of the Year Award from LeadingAge PA,” said Jim Pieffer, President and CEO of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. “Every day, Brad demonstrates our Network’s values of excellence, innovation, collaboration, and inclusion in providing person-centered care for older adults.”

Brad has received other accolades for his excellent work. Brad has twice won Presbyterian SeniorCare Network’s Spirit of Caring Award, which is given to team members who go above and beyond in demonstrating person-centered care.

Brad also received the 2025 Frontline Caregiver Award from Southwestern Pennsylvania Partnership for Aging, which celebrates individuals who have made “an outstanding contribution in the field of aging which have had a regional, state, or national impact.”
