Employee from Southminster Place Tests Positive for Virus

Oakmont, PA, April 4, 2020 – Presbyterian SeniorCare Network has received confirmation of its first case of novel coronavirus COVID-19. Late today, it verified that an employee tested positive for the virus. The employee had been working for four years as a Personal Care Aide at the Southminster Place, the personal care community on the Washington campus of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. The team member, who has not been at work since Wednesday, April 1st is quarantined at home and following appropriate medical guidance.
To date, there are no additional confirmed COVID-19 positive cases among the more than 2000 team members of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Additionally, there have been no confirmed cases among the residents and patients in the Network’s 50+ independent living and care communities across western Pennsylvania.
“We send our concern and prayers for our team member. Our staff and frontline care givers are heroes to all those we serve,” says Paul Winkler, president, Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. “During these unprecedented times, our entire staff has responded with compassion, care and commitment to meeting the needs of one of our nation’s most vulnerable populations. We have been steadfast in taking aggressive screening protocols to minimize the risk associated with COVID-19 for our team members, residents and patients, and we will continue to work tirelessly to provide the infection control measures and care needed to get through this pandemic.”
Presbyterian SeniorCare Network leadership has reached out to support the affected employee, resident families and coworkers, and has taken the appropriate steps to notify anyone who may have had direct contact with the employee.
